GUWAHATI: In a new development to the recent murder case of advocate Rinima Begum, three people were detained by the Barpeta police for interrogation in connection with the case.

On Monday 21 March, the Barpeta advocate Rinima was stabbed to death by some miscreant at the Bilortari Hati road area located in Barpeta town.

The three persons arrested for questioning have been identified as T Ali, Jakir Ali and the sister-in-law of the victim.

On Wednesday 23 March, a team of Barpeta police went for the search of the three and detained them from the Bonbarigaon area of Barpeta town.

The three arrested are suspected by the police of being involved in the brutal murder incident therefore they picked up the trio on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, these three people held today are the prime suspects behind the sensational murder case of the woman.

However, on speaking with the locals of the area, they said that the detention of the three is unfair as they are completely innocent and has no connections with the murder of Rinima.

According to the locals, the two men and one woman arrested are part of the VDP (Village Defense Party) and they might have been brought in on suspects but had no such involvement in the murder.

The deceased Rinima from Banbariya village of Barpeta was murdered on Monday evening hours while she was getting into a car to return back from a clinic where she went for her sister's checkup.

According to reports and initial investigation, Rinima had visited the residence of her sister in the Azar Nagar area because of certain medical concerns.

Her sister was ill and she took her to hospital but unfortunately, 3 unknown people approaching towards her on a two-wheeler stabbed her with a dagger in the middle of the road.

The unidentified men immediately run away from the crime scene after stabbing Rinima and the locals had taken her to the Barpeta Medical College Hospital where the doctor said that she was brought dead.
